PERSONALITY

Kiyen is shy, quiet, lazy, smart, but goofy at the same time once people get to know him. Because of his day to day life as a Shinigami, Kiyen is often heard saying “Sometimes I wish I could just go with the flow and not have to worry about what’s going on around me….just let life sort itself out.” Kiyen doesn’t like to go anywhere outside of Soul Society simply because he has been there most of his life and when he leaves he just can’t seem to adjust to the new environment that he’s in. As seen when he went to Hueco Mundo he immediately began complaining about how hot it was, how cold it got at night time, and how there were too many Hollows. It should also be noted that his allergies began to bother him. He also doesn’t like to leave his Barracks unless the situation absolutely calls for him to. Despite the primary personality Kiyen has, when the time comes, he has shown to be smarter than what most people think and very serious. Kiyen’s laziness is often shown 90% of the time, this is why most people tend to downplay how smart he is because of the wide variety of things he doesn’t like to put effort into.
Kiyen is well aware of his personality and even states that he hates not being able to engage in most activities because of his reserved persona. He claims that his shyness compliments his quietness which further compliments his laziness. His shyness makes it easy for him to go long periods of time without much social interaction which makes him quiet, his quietness and refusal to interact with large amounts of people gives him nothing to do which leads him to be lazy and not want to do anything out all, and lastly his goofiness hides how smart he really is allowing other people to think he’s not capable of much, which in turn allows him not to give too much of himself to anything despite the fact that the other Shinigami around him try to force him to excel beyond everyone else because they know he can.
The only time Kiyen is at peace with his mind is when he’s using “Jinzen”. Kiyen uses this often times to speak with Tsukyomi, his entire air around him shifts to calm. He also seems to be at his most calm when he can see the moon, he claims the moon to be his “companion” & “best friend” on numerous occasions, one reason why he bonds so closely with his own Zanpakuto better than anyone else. Tsukyomi also seems to be part of helping Kiyen get more active, as seen when Tsukyomi randomly launched an assault on Kiyen which then turned into a full-scale battle. Not too long after the battle stopped, Kiyen asked Tsukyomi why he stopped and that they should keep going to kill the boredom. This is a possible hint that Kiyen finds joy in battle more than anything else. On several occasions, when Kiyen actually begins fighting, he often takes on a sadistic personality causing some to call him by the alias “Demoniac of the Moon”. Kiyen also seems to become arrogant and quite cocky when in battle, he is often seen mocking or taunting his opponents. Whether he is aware of this or not is unknown at the moment. Although it seems Kiyen takes joy in battle for the most part, he too can realize when he’s faced with a dire situation.
Tsukyomi has claimed on numerous occasions that Kiyen has a dormant “I should be on top of the world” addition to his personality but states that it is well hidden by his primary showcase of his personality. Kiyen is not however unaware of this side of his personality. If he must, Kiyen will flaunt his nobility in order to gain what is needed from others; this sometimes causes others to refer to him as a bit manipulative in the least case. Kiyen also demonstrates a great sense of pride in his race as a Shinigami, often claiming that there is no race of spiritual beings that could possibly compare with their power, status and nobility. Of course, Kiyen’s pride however is a silent pride unless he begins to get ahead of himself. Lastly, people tend to say that Kiyen’s tone is always sarcastic as people can never really tell when to take him seriously or not. Kiyen claims that he never noticed it and that he doesn’t intend to come off as sarcastic. Regardless of the fact, Kiyen takes advantage of this when needed to, often succeeding in making others around him upset without the effort.

Personal Abilities
-Kyōka Suigetsu (鏡花水月, Mirror Flower, Water Moon): This allows for movement at a great speed which leaves behind an afterimage of Kiyen’s likeness. Upon being struck by the enemy, the afterimage shatters into shards of energy which then proceed to pass through the enemy causing minor-moderate slashes if they are close enough. He can only use this technique once.

-Ryūsei (流星, Meteor): Kiyen’s favorite technique. Kiyen surrounds himself in a thick layer of spiritual energy which takes a golden shade; it grants him a boost in speed as well as strength. This technique is serves as a means to amplify his shunpo & zanjutsu prowess to higher levels, allowing him to fight on par with opponents who’s own speed & physical strength may be greater than his own. Depending on the duration of the technique, the backlash and strain on Kiyen’s body immediately after using it will cause him to feel fatigued and worn out (in some cases he may even pass out). It also seems that if in the rare case Kiyen’s Zanpakuto breaks, he can use this reiatsu surrounding his body in order to create a new blade made completely of pure light (this blade is only temporary, as it goes away when Ryūsei ends). Kiyen can only use this technique when the Moon is clearly visible to him (when the topic setting is during the night). The strength of this technique is amplified greatly when the Moon is full (going by the real life calendar).

Zanpakuto

Tsukyomi (月読, "Moon Reader"): When sealed, Tsukyomi takes the form of a normal katana. The hilt is blue with a tsuba made of two slim swirls of metal looping around the blade to make an open oval.

• Shikai: Its Shikai command is “Shine” (光る, Hikaru). Kiyen holds his sword out in front of himself as his sword burst into a flash of light. Once the light dies down, Kiyen’s new sword is revealed to be a radiant blue rapier. Its blade gives off a luminous white shine which is sported with a hollow cup-like hilt and intricate designs engraved on the handle and hilt itself.

Shikai Special Ability: Tsukyomi’s Shikai ability is Kamisori (剃刀紅姫, Razor). Upon Tsukyomi’s release, whenever Kiyen attacks his opponent, its blade emits a mass of sky blue condensed reishi. This reishi stays wrapped around the sword at all times, trailing behind the sword with each swing, acting as an augmenter for Kiyen’s sword strikes and also reduces the force necessary to cut into something. Upon Kiyen’s will, the blade fires energy arcs capable of cutting through materials and substances with relative ease. These waves of energy are capable of instantly changing direction or spreading into many smaller waves of energy to attack from all around. Aside from increasing sword strikes and releasing energy arcs, Kiyen can also increase the length of his rapier to a maximum of 13ft. by adding extra reishi to the blade itself. This helps him fight his opponents from somewhat of a distance.

• Bankai: Jōshōgetsu: Meirōeizō (上昇月: 明朗映像, Ascending moon; Clear reflection): is a much larger variant of Kiyen’s Shikai. During the activation of Bankai, Kiyen punctures the ground in front of him four times in a semi circle with the tip of his rapier. The puncture marks that Kiyen creates in the ground, causes streams of light to rise up and seemingly pierce the heavens themselves. The streams create 4 large tornadoes of silver and black light which merge together into one massive tornado that engulfs Kiyen. As the tornado rages, the sound of unsheathing swords can be heard from within the tempest. When the tornado fades away, Kiyen is revealed to be surrounded by 12 silver and jet black long swords which are encircling him. These 12 blades serve as a versatile defense as well as offense. Kiyen can either choose to control these blades mentally through his mind or call them to his hands for actual melee combat. All of the swords possess the same attack power and strength making it even harder for the opponent to defend against the onslaught of blades. The flaw to this Bankai is that when Kiyen’s power starts to wane (prior to or during Bankai), the original 12 swords begin to disappear. This causes the strength of the Bankai to diminish greatly as more and more blades fade away. Also, if enough force is applied onto the swords they will also in the more rare case begin to break & shatter.

Bankai Special Ability: As in Shikai, Kiyen’s swords all individually possess the Kamisori ability when he enters Bankai. This ability’s power increases exponentially due to the fact that he now has more than one sword to fight with. Most of the new techniques Kiyen gains access to in this form are for melee purposes. They’re more focused on crushing to opponent with strength and force rather than extraneous techniques.
• Name of ability/technique: Katsuki (霞月, Hazy Moon)
Description: The blades of Jōshōgetsu: Meirōeizō rotate rapidly creating a large dense rotating sphere of fog that surrounds the area around Kiyen. The force of rotation from this sphere is capable of parrying oncoming attacks and tossing enemies away. However, if enough force is applied, the sphere will give way thus leaving Kiyen momentarily vulnerable.

• Name of ability/technique: Katsuki: Shiro Hankyō (霞月:反響, Hazy Moon: White Reverberation)
Description: Observed in the Katsuki technique, this technique causes the spirit particles in the fog to expand to visible form. The fog sphere then turns into solid reishi which becomes a solid blue color and unleashes a barrage of energy bullets.

• Name of ability/technique: Risangetsu (離散月, Scattering Moon)
Description: This technique causes the swords around Kiyen to glow & duplicate into exactly 1000 blades. Once the 1000 blades materialize, they lose their glow. These blades are controlled mentally and zero in towards the opponent in a constant, rushing, spiral storm of swords. If directed with hand motions, the speed of the blades doubles. The blades in Risangetsu do not possess the Kamisori ability and cannot be called out of the spiral for melee combat. Anything caught in the tempest of blades is instantly shredded by the passing of the swords.

• Name of ability/technique: Kyūreki no Yari (旧暦槍, Lunar Javelin)
Description: This is Kiyen’s final and very costly technique as well as his “13th blade”; Kiyen creates a javelin-like weapon using his spiritual power which causes his original blades to fade away. The javelin has energy flowing off each end in a fashion similar to flames, making it look more arrow-shaped. He can use this weapon as a projectile or as a physical weapon which disintegrates material upon impact. When thrown it produces a devastating explosion upon reaching the area of its intended target. Kiyen prefers not to release the technique at close range because of the damage he would sustain to his own body. From this javelin, Kiyen can release several smaller projectiles that are not as lethal but can also cause small explosions upon impact. However, each time a smaller projectile is launched from the javelin, its lethality decreases, causing the full power of the javelin itself to gradually dwindle. Kiyen can only use this technique once.

THE STORY SO FAR

Kiyen was born and raised in Soul Society from the time of birth up until his time as a Soul Reaper. Kiyen lived in the average class Rukon district with his Grandparents. Kiyen’s life with his family was average and seemed just like a normal life anyone would live. Growing up Kiyen was very attached to his Grandmother, she was his World and he loved her very much. He could not however, say the same for his Grandfather. His Grandfather seemed to be too attached which led to Kiyen most of the time not wanting his attention at all seeing as how he had already given too much of it. One night while straying from home, Kiyen came back and found a horrific site. Both of his guardians, his Grandparents had been slaughtered by Hollows. Kiyen ran away from home and never came back since that night. For many days Kiyen had to fend for himself. He had to get food, water, and every now and then some more clothes.
Not too long after the death of his Grandparents and his time of being alone, Kiyen was adopted by a high class family from the 2nd district known as the Mishima’s. The Mishima’s took Kiyen in and first taught him the basic skill of Zanjutsu which is the Japanese sword style. He lived his life with this noble family for years and learned everything he knows about fighting from there. Even though he was still young, Kiyen possessed all the latent powers of a full-fledged soul reaper. Being in one of the most socially recognized noble families, Kiyen was placed in the advanced class straight away, Kiyen showed great skill in the art of zanjutsu, kido, and shunpo, however he showed little promise with hakuda, only being able to throw out a few punches and kicks if possible, but, even then they were more than capable of taking out lower classed opponents. Kiyen was ambidextrous when it came to using a sword and was proficient with the form of kendo, highly adept at using kido, and very capable of leaving behind afterimages with his speed.
In his 2nd year at the academy, Kiyen achieved Shikai for the first time with his Zanpaktou, Tsukyomi. During a night training exercise in the human world, the group of Shinigami he was with was attacked by a large mass of Hollows and 5 of his fellow classmates were killed. Kiyen reacted the way any other person would if they were cornered by a Hollow, he was scared that he was going to die a painful death, but at the same time there was absolutely no fear at all, it was as if Kiyen knew he was already safe. The Moon’s light blazed brightly that night for it was a full moon. Unknowingly, Kiyen went into a trance like state and his reiatsu skyrocketed, he mumbled the name of his Zanpakuto as the Hollows grew closer and closer with each passing second. As they prepared to make their final kill, a torrent of light surrounded Kiyen and immediately eradicated all the Hollows in the vicinity; he blacked out right after it happened. When he came to, he was in the 4th Division Medical Unit; a large number of Squad members were there and had congratulated him on protecting his Squad members, or at least what was left of them. What Kiyen had done that night was talked about all throughout the Seireitei but, he still didn’t know what had happened. Kiyen later found out from a current Captain that he had completely desolated all of the Hollows that were invading Karakura Town at the time. As Kiyen got more experienced in the art of fighting, he realized that for some odd reason his reiatsu seemed to be higher when the Moon itself was visible to him wherever he was.
